Vision, Aims & Values
Creating an environment which develops a love of learning
Academy Vision
We want all our pupils to be successful learners and to achieve as well as they can during their time with us.
We want them to contribute to the life of the school, taking responsibility for their own learning and looking out for and after others.
We regard school as a first step in lifelong learning and we want our pupils to be eager to learn throughout their life. In school, we encourage pupils to believe in themselves and strive to be the best they can be so that they can make the most of the opportunities available to them.
This means that we encourage pupils, through word and actions, to become confident individuals and responsible citizens.
Academy Aims
Our aim is to provide a meaningful and effective education for all our pupils. We seek to achieve this by creating a caring learning and teaching environment where staff can deliver a vibrant and flexible curriculum which is responsive both to the needs of individual pupils and those of a changing society. Central to this is a strong partnership between staff, pupils, parents and the wider community, all working together in pursuit of the above aim.
Values
During sessions 2016/2017 the school decided to review the existing ‘Values’ of the school, with a view to establishing new values that everyone could relate to. Following this extensive process the following values were agreed upon:
Here at The Academy we believe that openness and honesty make for the best relationships because it leads to trust and faith. … It’s important to always act with integrity in everything you do, to be compassionate, friendly, loyal; to make sure that you do the right thing in everything you do.
We believe that equality is at the heart of good educational practice. All students are of equal value and deserve equal access to every aspect of school life. They have equality in learning and work towards their highest possible levels of achievement.
Every student at Kirkcudbright Academy is encouraged to, and supported in, aspiring to achieve their full potential, whether in their academic study or through extra-curricular participation
Everyone at The Academy should be treated with respect, regardless of race, gender or religious beliefs. Respect should also be shown to the school environment, taking care of the fabric and equipment within the school building.
By developing trust in The Academy and school community all students feel safe and secure and achieve to their full potential.
Academic
Learning
We make every lesson informative and engaging in order to ensure a thorough understanding of each subject so that our students can maximise their academic potential.
Our academic staff are experts in their chosen fields, dedicated to their students and committed to getting the very best from each of them. Developing self-motivation is as important as academic results. With our broad curriculum and inspiring teaching, we encourage the students to challenge themselves and to work diligently to achieve their goals.
