Careers Advice
Curricular and careers guidance are shared concerns of our Guidance Team and Careers Team, who work side by side to support older pupils. We aim for steady and realistic progress over the years, to enable pupils to make informed decisions about subject choices, further study and employment. Our Careers Team includes a fully qualified professional Careers Adviser.

Career support in school
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is the national skills agency, and we deliver Scotland’s Career Service. Our careers advisers deliver career information, advice and guidance in your school to pupils from S1-S6. We are there to help you understand the world of work and to develop the career management skills you need as you move through school and beyond.
Your school careers adviser is Lucy Tilston and she will be in school Mondays and Wednesdays. You can get in touch with her by calling 01776 546015 or emailing lucy.tilston@sds.co.uk
You might meet her with your class at a group activity, at a careers event, or at a one-to-one appointment at her room in the health suite (beside Mr Henry’s office).
Lucy (Careers Adviser) can speak to you about:
- understanding and developing yourself, your strengths, and your skills
- making your option choices
- career choices
- courses, training, and volunteering
- CVs, applications, and interviews
- apprenticeships
- local and national job opportunities.
You can also visit our careers website My World of Work.
Beyond school, you can speak to our expert advisers in any of our SDS centres (Dumfries 01387 272500 or Stranraer 01776 889793) or community venues (Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart etc). We can support people of all ages.
