The Schools’ Analyst Competition took place on Tuesday 23rd of May at the Kirkcudbright Academy. The competition enables students to demonstrate and expand on their existing knowledge, skills, and aptitude for analytical science through practical experiments based on relevant problems. In this competition students were analytical chemists employed to investigate some unpleasant goings on at the Grand Baking competition. They were given three tasks to complete: Identification of unknown white solids, determination of bicarbonate of soda content of cake extract.
