After a very early start on Monday the 12th of June, Kirkcudbright Academy’s higher and advanced higher Chemistry pupils visited the Pure and Applied Chemistry Department of University of Strathclyde. Higher Chemistry pupils took part in the Fun Lab activities like, making transition metal complexes, growing a stalagmite from sodium ethanoate, carrying out a Briggs-Rauscher reaction. Advanced Higher Chemistry pupils were asked to make a vanadyl sulfate complex and identify it using IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
