Dear Parents and Carers,
As we prepare to welcome back all students on Wednesday I am writing to update you.
When pupils arrive at school they must clean their hands before entry. For the first day back only, S1 pupils will go directly to the Cochran Hall and all other pupils will go to their UPS classroom. Thereafter, in the mornings pupils will go directly to their period 1 classroom.
One way systems have been introduced for the pupils to move around the school and enhanced cleaning systems have been set up so that the school will be cleaned throughout the school day. There is no requirement for pupils to wear face coverings in school, although some staff may do so. S1-S3 are no longer required to social distance from each other but should attempt to respect 2m social distancing from adults and older pupils. Pupils in S4-S6 should social distance wherever possible.
Pupils in S1 are not allowed to leave the school premises at any time. Pupils in S2-S6 are allowed out at lunchtimes and S6 pupils can sign out at the school office if they have a free period. Any pupils who leave the school premises must be aware of their surroundings and follow the general public guidelines for Covid-19, such as wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing. On their return to school they will need to clean their hands before entering the premises. I would ask you to please discuss with your child the social context of the school and town and how their behaviour in the town may be seen by residents and visitors. It is very important that pupils are mindful of the feelings of others at all times but particularly with the heightened sensitivities that exist at the moment.
Any pupil who deliberately breaches any Covid related instructions will be asked to return home, for the safety of all other members of the school.
Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. We will ask you to remove your child immediately if they are coughing, appear to have a high temperature or seem unwell. It is important that if a member of your household must self-isolate that the child does not attend school and that we are informed that you are in isolation.
The arrangements above will be reviewed often and regularly. It is very likely that changes in procedure will be necessary, but we will endeavour to keep you informed as soon as any decisions are made. We will all work hard to keep everyone safe in school and the systems put in place will help in doing this. I appreciate and thank you in advance for your usual support and patience as we establish new schooling practices.
