School Uniform

Dear Parent/Carer,

Over the last year we have consulted with parents, staff and pupils about aspects of our uniform policy and as a
result we are going to bring in a small number of changes. There are several overarching principles for school
uniform: it must not have any visible logos (this is to avoid ‘logo shaming’ as a form of bullying), it should be
smart, and sportswear is for sports – it is not acceptable for school uniform.

A large majority of people wanted a “hoodie” to be part of the school uniform and we have decided that we will
introduce one. The hoodie can be worn as part of the school uniform and pupils will not be asked to remove it in
lessons unless there are safety concerns around wearing one, e.g. in Science or Technology. The only hoodie
that will be acceptable as part of the uniform is shown below
, this will be available from our local supplier,
‘Banks and Braes’, although in the first instance we will endeavour to co-ordinate an initial bulk order. These are
priced at £25.00 and can also have a name or initials embroidered directly under to School badge.

Plain black jumpers, cardigans and blazers are all still part of the uniform. The requirement to wear a shirt and
tie also remains the same
.

School uniform also specifies a black skirt or dress, trousers or dress shorts. Tracksuits are absolutely not
acceptable. When we consulted on allowing leggings to be worn as uniform, a very small majority thought they
should be allowed and we have decided that we allow certain leggings for a trial period. Leggings need to be of
sufficient thickness that they are not see-through – a common issue. It is difficult to be specific but leggings that
have a seam down the outside of leg, belt loops, and back pockets will be more likely to be of suitable quality.
As previously mentioned, they must not be sportswear with logos and mesh panels.

Recently we have seen an increase in the number of pupils wearing unacceptable footwear. Footwear must be
all black
, stripes and logos are not uniform. ‘Crocs’ are not suitable for school.

If you would like advice about suitability before purchasing any items, please don’t hesitate to contact the
school.

Kind Regards
