On The 23rd of June, twenty-two S1-S6 pupils participated in the Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition at Kirkcudbright Academy. To comply with Covid regulations, some students submitted recordings and some performed live. All of the pupils impressed the judges, former pupils Nathan Syed-Tollan and Calum Johnstone, with musical and confident performances. The winner in the Junior section was S1 pupil Robin McClure who performed on piano. The runner up was Sandy Ross on acoustic guitar. In the Senior Instrumentalist category, 3rd place went to Sandy Grieve on electric guitar, 2nd place was awarded to violinist Fraser Hannah and the overall winner was Erin Findlay who performed on piano. In the Senior Vocal category, Maisie Anderson was 3rd, Max Fawcett was 2nd and Josephine Pallinder won. We are very proud of all of the young musicians and look forward to welcoming parents and the community back next year, if restrictions allow.
