Academic Expectations

At Kirkcudbright Academy, academic aspirations are high, and success is achieved through a genuine curiosity and love for learning. We are proud of our strong academic record, whilst also recognising that education in its truest sense is measured not just in examination results, but in the preparation of young people for the future.

Academic progress is very closely monitored, with regular assessment and feedback to ensure that pupils are achieving their fullest potential. We have the freedom to tailor and enhance the requirements of the Curriculum to suit the specific needs of our students. As well as fulfilling the aims of providing a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based, promoting the mental and physical development of students and of society and preparing students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life we aim for academic excellence and a firm foundation from which to progress to further study.

The Junior school comprises of our S1-S3 year groups who follow the BGE curriculum as outlined by the Scottish government.

The school has an comprehensive support network for students who require a little more guidance to achieve their full potential.

The Senior school, our S4-S6 students, follow courses offered by the SQA supplemented by opportunities to broaden the learning experience.

Learning

We make every lesson informative and engaging in order to ensure a thorough understanding of each subject so that our students can maximise their academic potential.

Our academic staff are experts in their chosen fields, dedicated to their students and committed to getting the very best from each of them. Developing self-motivation is as important as academic results. With our broad curriculum and inspiring teaching, we encourage the students to challenge themselves and to work diligently to achieve their goals.
